Well another big convention has come and gone, and that means that its time for another edition of “From some asshole who wasn’t there.” This time, the talk of the town is all about Comic Con 2009 and all of the big news stories that came out of it. So for those of you who, like us, missed out on experiencing all of the excitement of Comic Con 09, here are the top five news items that came out of the event, or at least according to some asshole who wasn’t there.
1. Marvel Hits the Sack for Little Big Planet
Have you ever played through a level of Little Big Planet while asking yourself, “This is awesome, but man wouldn’t it be cool if I could play through this level as Iron Man, Wolverine, or Captain America?” Me neither, but that’s only because such an awesome idea never even seemed like a possibility. Now that Sony has entered into a partnership with Marvel though, we can expect to see Iron Man, Wolverine and Captain America Sackboys to be released as downloadable content for Little Big Planet in the near future. Any Marvel characters you’d like to see in Little Big Planet? Let us know in the comments.
2. Halo and Marvel Turning Japanese
It seems like there is some sort of underground trading route between Japan and America where they let us take one of their beloved anime franchises to make into a movie (Dragonball Z, Blood the Last Vampire, and the upcoming Cowboy Bebop) and in return we give them a beloved comic book hero for them to make an anime out of. Revealed at Comic Con this year were two trailers for the upcoming anime adaptations of Iron Man and Wolverine, both of which are to animated by Studio MadHouse, whom anime fans might know as the studio responsible for Death Note, Trigun, and the anime adaptation of Devil May Cry.
Of course, in addition to Iron Man and Wolverine, it was also revealed that Halo would be given an anime adaptation as well in the form of a movie that is likely going to be similar to the treatment that was given to the Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight. Expect to see a compilation of several stories created by various different animation studios that each want to give their own unique take on the Halo Universe.
3. The Cogs and Locust from Gears of War Just Got Much Cuter (And Less Buff)
If Sony fans get to have their Little Big Planet Marvel characters, that means that Xbox fans deserve something cool to dress up some of their beloved characters too right? At least that’s how the logic goes according to Cliffy B and the rest of guys over at Epic Games who announced that there will be Cog and Locust costumes to dress up your avatars with once the new dashboard update arrives. As cool as this is though, I can’t help but think that the contestants in 1 vs 100 are about to get a lot less diverse.
4. Dexter Season 4 Slits Throats (In A Good Way)
Alright, admittedly this isn’t gaming or comic related, but I’m a huge fan of Dexter and the trailer for season 4 that was revealed at Comic Con just made the wait until September so much more painful. We’ve got Detective Lundy coming back, a brand new serial killer who appears to be even better than Dexter, and the new dynamic of Dexter raising his very own infant son while still trying to juggle his private life of being a justice seeking serial killer. With all of this and more, season 4 is already shaping up to be another strong entry into one of the most consistently awesome TV shows I’ve seen. For those who haven’t watched Dexter yet, now is the perfect time to catch up.
5. The Music of a Galaxy Far Far Away
It just wouldn’t be a Comic Con without some cool new news about Star Wars. This year, the big news was that John Williams, the composer of the Star Wars movies, would be taking his orchestra on tour for a huge multi-media event appropriately titled, Star Wars: In Concert. The event will feature songs that span throughout all six Star Wars movies being played by a live orchestra while a three story tall HD screen showcases the appropriate scenes from the movies. The experience is to be narrated by Anthony Daniels, the actor who played C-3PO, and is sure to provide Star Wars fans with a brand new and exciting way to experience the epic story of a galaxy far far away.
