Modern Warfare 2’s debut trailer showed off how much deeper Infinity Ward is making the single player campaign’s story this time around. A guy has a bomb strapped to his chest, someone’s getting a “contact in Rio,” there’s talk of “revenge,” some general espionage is taking place, etc. It all looks a bit more involved.
And now, issue 33 of UK PlayStation Magazine reveals a few more details about the forthcoming shooter’s single-player campaign and general vibe. Vince Zampella, Infinity Ward studio head, told the British rag that there’s a whole open-world Brazilian level he describes as a “huge sprawling shanty town full of multiple routes and areas.” Zampella also insisted that they’re aiming for entertainment, and not realism, in case there was any confusion there:
“We go for authenticity not realism. We’re not making a sim, we’re making entertainment. We want it to look real like an action movie.”
This light suspension of disbelief allows for some unrealistic (but awesome sounding) weapons, Zampella explains, like a gun that tracks enemies with lasers.
And screw realism! Good on you, Infinity Ward. Make as many wacky laser guns as needed. You can even put those lasers on the backs of dragons, for all I care.
By the way, someone on the Rebel Gaming Forums uploaded scans of the issue, if you’re interested in giving it a read.
